Nicholas

She went to the police?

I had been sitting outside her apartment after work the past few days, laying low and watching her movements. She didn’t go many places; only the park to exercise, out to grab food and coffee, and to randomly visit the campus here and there.

Other than that, she stayed home.

The fact that she barely left the house at night made it difficult to implement the next part of my plan, which was to have a friendly conversation. I figured if she saw my face, got to know me as a person, we could work something out as far as my grade. At the same time, I wanted to have the conversation at night, preferably in a secluded location in case she didn’t see my point of view.

As I thought she would, Mom lost her shit when she learned about the B+ I received in Psych 101.

“And you were going to switch this to your major?” She sneered.

Then she threatened to cut me off again, until Dad cut in and told her to wait it out until the end of the semester. Now I only had eight weeks left to turn it around.

But if Professor Jackson kept giving me all these low scores, sooner or later it would be impossible to earn an A.

So now I was left to resort to more direct measures. But she threw me off by leaving her apartment after eight in the evening only to go to the police station.

I thought this was finally my chance to talk to her, to catch her out somewhere and pretend we ran into each other randomly, but how could I do that at a police station?

I couldn’t wait outside for her here because there were cameras all around, not to mention witnesses. I would have to wait for another opportunity.

Sucking my teeth, I drove off.

Why would she go to the police?

Had she caught on to me?

I had left a few unsavory comments on her podcast, but so did other people.

Then I remembered the one I left earlier today.

I was pissed because Martha fired me from the floral department for allegedly being rude to a customer.

It wasn’t my fault they asked a dumb question. Why not give them a dumb response in return?

Whatever, that job took too much of my time anyway. I needed to focus on my studies if I was going to pass this psychology class.

I also had to pay my rent, but I had enough in my savings to last the rest of the semester. If I buckled down and focused, I might still be able to earn an A and not have to worry about having an in-person conversation with Professor Jackson.

Besides, if she was going to the police about the comments I left, I needed to lay low anyway. Not that they could be traced back to me because I used all different IP addresses to leave them, but still.

One could never be too careful.

I pulled away from the space I was
